Concrete Objects was written for Alan Keown and Springfield High School in 2018. The instrumentation is pared down to basic elements. Each player has one drum and one junk metal sound. With this simplicity, the basic function and interaction of low and high is brought to the forefront.
Patterns of different length intertwine and constantly recontextualize the musical surface. Inspired by the patterned moments in the music of Paul Lansky, uneven cycles revolve at their own pace affording the sound to constantly evolve from small rhythmic germs.
Instrumentation: Each player has one skin and one metal
